We are thrilled to announce the unveiling of Agnes Nyanhongo’s newest sculpture at the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park in Alabama U.S.A, commissioned through ZimSculpt for the Equal Justice Initiative. This monumental piece marks our first commissioned project of the year. On June 19th, Agnes joined the park’s dedication ceremony to celebrate Freedom Day.
During the ceremony, EJI founder Bryan Stevenson highlighted the remarkable resilience and strength of enslaved people, saying, “Enslaved people resisted. Enslaved people were resilient. Enslaved people found ways to make a way.”
Shona sculpture is a powerful expression of freedom and resilience, capturing the spirit and strength of those who have persevered through adversity.
In the spirit of Juneteenth, let us honor the legacy of perseverance and continue to fight against all forms of oppression through our art, actions, and words. Well done, Agnes!
