Based in Harare, ZimSculpt has a unique opportunity to be in constant communication with the stone sculptors and thus privy to the latest cutting edge sculpture being produced in Zimbabwe today.

We are a world-touring exhibition that has been on the road since the year 2000.  We have the largest collection of Shona sculpture in Zimbabwe.

About Us

We are a small family-run business. I’m Vivienne and I’ve been in the Arts business for over 20 years.  I started representing ‘Zimbabwean’ Artists in 2000 when initially I created the website ZimSculpt.com after meeting a Zimbabwean representative of Shona Sculpture at a UK art exhibition.  I was invited to Zimbabwe for 2 weeks to see if… Read more

About Shona Sculpture

Zimbabwe means Great Stone House. It is fitting that stone sculpture is the art that most represents the people of Zimbabwe and one which they have become world-renowned for. Read more

The Stone & Mines

The majority of stones used in Zimbabwean sculpture are locally sourced and belong to the geological family of Serpentine.  They are sedimentary, having originally been laid down on a sandy sea floor and metamorphic, since subsequent exposure to intense heat and pressure over hundreds of millions of years has transformed them into hard stone.  Serpentines… Read more

Care & Repair

We often get visits at our exhibitions or enquiries on our website about broken or chipped sculptures. Depending on the value of the original piece and the age of the sculpture we would advise repairing it or not.  We often ask for photos to be sent to gauge this if you are unsure.  Sometimes it can… Read more

Press Coverage, Quotes & Testimonials

Please contact us if you would like a Press Release for our current or up and coming exhibitions and we’ll get back to you immediately. Our local contact numbers during exhibitions are also listed on the contact page. All press quotes can be viewed here. Read more

Fair Trade & Giving

ZimSculpt’s profits are reinvested in new art works, used to bring artists overseas and to market Zimbabwean talent, internationally. All of the sculptures are bought directly from the artist in Zimbabwe. The money from their sculptures pays their rent, food and school fees, like our salaries do and goes along way in their local communities.… Read more

Literature

Many books have been written on particular sculptors, the art movement in general and catalogues of specific exhibitions. Celia Winter-Irving, of Australian decent dedicated her life to writing about Zimbabwean sculpture in Zimbabwe – from newspaper articles, books and in-flight entertainment magazines, she passed away in 2009. As one of the leading promoters of Zimbabwean… Read more

It’s hard to imagine the difficulty involved in transporting more than 300 stone sculptures from Zimbabwe on a world tour – some weighing so much it takes five men to lift them – but the team behind ZimSculpt has managed this tedious task for over a decade, and brings this beloved Zimbabwean art form to VanDusen Botanical Garden for its third and final year in Vancouver.
