2 July 2014

ZimSculpt artists in residence Patrick Sephani & Passmore Mupindiko arrived in North Carolina with curator Joseph Croisette to set up our 3 month exhibition at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, in Belmont, near Charlotte.

The opening reception went well and we’ve received many visitors despite the heat and humidity!

We have a one week guest appearance by the world famous Zimbabwean sculptor Dominic Benhura from August 26-Sept. 1 – his work will be represented for the duration of the show, along with over 50 other different Zimbabwean sculptors work.

On the first Tuesday every month, Joseph Croisette will lead a Curator Tour of the exhibition.  Joseph Croisette has been immersed in the art of Zimbabwe for 20 years. As the curator and managing director of ZimSculpt, Croisette exhibits art all over the world. He’ll introduce you to the art of Shona Stone Sculpture and the Zimbabwean artists who will make the Garden their home this summer.

Garden Nights are running Thursdays, 5 to 9 p.m.  No reservations are required.
Hear the stories behind the art as curator Joseph Croisette takes an evening art walk every Thursday at 7 p.m.  Join us for a tasting of wines of southern Africa that are becoming a hit in America and participate in family activities to learn about the art of Shona sculpture.  Check the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden website for details.

Here in Zimbabwe winter has set in which means 21 degrees celcius in the day, dipping to 7 during the night… and we think its freezing!

We hope that you like our new website design, please take the time to browse the pages.  More information has been written in the ‘About’ pages, History, How to care for your sculpture and more.  We hope that collectors will use our pages as points of reference today and in the future.  Please feel free to write to us with your feedback, comments and requests.

Wishing you all wonderful long days this Summer…

…unlike art found in much of the rest of Africa, Shona sculpture … has become a wholly indigenous modern art form created exclusively as a form of artistic expression.
