Preening Heron

Preening Heron is a large Shona sculpture for sale. Sculpted by Zachariah Njobo in Springstone. Dimensions are 59 h x 18 w x 10 d.

Born in Birchenough Bridge in the Midlands of Zimbabwe, Zachariah is from the Ndau tribe, a group peculiar to the area between the traditional homes of the Shona in the North and the Ndebele to the South. Their language is a blend of both Shona and Ndebele. 4th born in a family of 6, Zachariah grew up in the Midlands and had to leave school at the age of thirteen due to financial constraints. Whilst at school it was here that he formed an interest in the arts and sculpting, kindled by his Uncle who was an already successful wooden sculptor. Read more here
