Tendai grew up in Chitungwiza were he completed his primary education at Seke No. 1 Primary School and his Ordinary Level at Seke NO. 4 High School. At school Tendai was good at drawing and he found it easy to carve contemporary visual art under Chikusa Padzuwas supervision. He started his sculpting career in 1994. He was taught by Chikuwa Pasuwa and worked with him for two years. He became a full time artist when he decided to

venture on his own in 1996. What inspired him to carve is his black culture and history, which he believes is becoming defunct in carving. He wants to help revive this art with other artists like him. He does not only carve sculpture related to his culture but that which evolves around him, in the present day of his life and the life in itself as a whole.

He markets his art mostly in Europe & the USA through collectors who visit his gallery from time to time.
