Painting, fabric, drawing and sculpting – Taylor Nkomo is a versatile artist. Following his education at the Mzilikazi and Craft Center in Bulawayo he studied from 1970 to 1973 at the polytechnical college in his hometown, afterwards worked as a graphic artist at the National Gallery in Harare and finally started sculpting in 1977. Meanwhile he has received numerous awards for his works; his sculptures, textiles and paintings have been exhibited worldwide.
Taylor lets himself be inspired by the environment and is not restricted thematically. In some of his works he focuses on the spirituality of nature and on others he describes the central meaning of family ties within the Zimbabwean society. Often he sketches his ideas on paper and then transposes the drawings into stone. Thus sculptures are created which show powerful expressiveness.
