Semina Mpofu

Semina was born on 3rd March 1968 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and currently works as the Arts Teacher for the International School in Harare.

She has great respect within the sculpture movement in Zimbabwe and has won many awards for her diverse and creative works, usually in mixed medium stones. Most recently she won the prestigious NAMA awards in 2008 (National Arts Merit Award) in Zimbabwe.

Semina worked for several years at Dominic Benhura’s Studios, where she raised her kudos in the arts world.

Her works feature in a couple of books; Zimbabwe Stone Sculpture ‘A Retrospective’ 1957-2004 compiled by Doreen Sibanda and In Praise Of Women Stone sculpture created or inspired by the Women of Zimbabwe 2004-2005 International Series.

Meeting Semina is a bit like viewing her work. She stands strikingly proud, with her muscular physique, powerful posture and eye-catching beauty. A rare mixture of grace and spike, beauty and edge; commanding instant respect. She hails from a family of go-getting sisters. One is a rugby player for the Harare sports club, the second a football player who played in the Nigeria All Africa games, and the other a hockey player for the Eradicators.

Private collectors are from around the world.
