Movern Mungati

Born in Mhondoro, Movern started art at a tender age doing wood carving by making cooking sticks, axe handles, hoe handles to mention but a few.  He also learnt to make clay molded animals (cows), huts, human figures under the guidance of his uncle Samuel Mungati in Mhondoro.

Movern started stone sculpting in 2010 with the inspiration of Martin Umali.  One day he asked for a raw stone and permission to use his tools, he carved an elephant.  Currently he is enjoying sculpting abstract pieces.

He is still looking forward to marketing his sculptures worldwide and to promote others by teaching them stone sculpting and to own a gallery and employ people.

Movern currently works at the Canon Paterson Craft Centre in Mabvuku, a small township just outside the capital Harare.  There are mostly stone sculptors at the Craft Centre, with some disabled craft people making bottle top crafts.
