Mike was born in 1967 in the Makoni District of Rusape. He grew up herding cattle and goats in the rural areas. During this period he would mould animals with friends, not knowing that one day he would do it in stone.
After completing his O’levels in 1986 he met the late Joseph Ndandarika at Vukutu Artists Retreat in Nyanga. In 1987 he moved to Hatfield where he teamed up with Eddie Masaya and Joseph Ndandarika. In 1989 he moved to Mhandara where he co-founded Gallery 2000 and teamed up with Eddie Masaya, Brighton Sango and Luke Mugavazi. His first local exhibition was in 1989 at Le Form now called Alliance Francaise in Harare where he exhibited alongside Tapfuma Gutsa, Eddie Masaya, Brighton Sango and Norbert Shamuyarira.
His first major international exhibition was in Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the UK in 1990 where he was the youngest among the most established masters like Ndandarika, Mukomberanwa and the Takawiras.
Mike works mainly in Springstone, Verdite, Serpentine and Opal. He is always exploring new ideas. Mike enjoys working on lovers because he says he wants to spread love to the world.
