Born in 1975 in Rusape district, Zimbabwe, Itayi Mupumha is the eldest of eight siblings. At the age of 11, he relocated to Chitungwiza, where he completed his O-Level education in 1993.

His journey into stone sculpting began in 1994, guided by his uncle, Richard Mupumha, who recognized his potential and mentored him through a two-year apprenticeship. By 1996, Itayi had refined his skills and embarked on his own artistic path, establishing himself as a full-time sculptor.

Currently, Itayi works at Chitungwiza Arts Centre alongside his brother, Onias Mupumha. With a dedication to his craft, he has gained international recognition, with his sculptures being acquired by collectors in Germany, Italy, Britain, the USA, Australia, and South Africa. His talent was further showcased in 2001 when his work was featured in a joint exhibition at Msande Gallery in Berlin, Germany.

Married and a devoted father, Itayi continues to shape stone with passion, creating pieces that reflect both traditional and contemporary influences. His sculptures embody a unique blend of heritage, skill, and artistic vision, ensuring his place among Zimbabwe’s esteemed sculptors.
