Isaac Choloka

Isaac is a passionate sculptor and family man, full of zeal and enthusiasm for contemporary art. He was mentored by Lazarus Takawira, a renowned first-generation Shona art sculptor.

LIFE

Enjoying drawing cartoons of various life forms at an early age, he was a natural, getting positive reviews even from his teachers and adults around his community. His love for art coincidentally led him to meet famous Shona sculpture artist Lazarus Takawira He turned professional just after completing his secondary education studies, for a while there were many challenges, that included lack of finances to purchase raw stones and tools to pursue the newfound passion, but with the help of his mentors and his family he steadily grew to become a recognized stone sculptor in his community and Zimbabwe at large.

INFLUENCE

His major inspiration was the internationally renowned Shona stone sculptor Lazarus Takawira, who imprinted special finishing set of skills in Isaac. In addition, Wengai Chilenga, another one of his mentors was also an inspiration of his artwork.

WORK

His journey so far as a stone sculptor has been worthwhile, significant milestones have catapulted his art into the houses of dignitaries and celebrities across the country. Commissioned to work on pieces to be permanently displayed at the Potraz Building in Zimbabwe 4 Commissioned to create art works for the Symbols in Stone gallery in Germany in 2011. Exhibited at the Hanover Travel Expo, being his first significant activity in his career.

2006: He featured in book called Mashonaland Contemporary Shona Sculpture.
2008: Tenth Anniversary Exhibition- CAC.
2009: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts USA-Tour of my Private Collection.
2009: African and African-American Art featured in new VMFA exhibit. Virginia Museum of Fine Arts USA.
2010: Private Exhibitions in USA in various locations and galleries.
2010: Exhibition at Travel Expo, Zimbabwe.
2011: Commissioned pieces for New Gallery Opening, Symbols in
Stone in Germany.
2012: WEAA, exhibition at Morgan State University in Baltimore, USA.
2012: Live radio interview on the Michael Eric Dyson Show USA
