Douglas Goshomi was trained by the late Colleen Madamombe (Died 2009), a successful and accomplished second generation female sculptor who won several awards including three times “Best Female Artist of Zimbabwe”, see her
profile on Wikipedia.
Colleen’s work which includes observation and bold deviation from the norm by developing her own style (i.e her
signature womanhood sculptures), prepared and inspired Douglas work. In his own right, Douglas is a pioneer with the stone mining of sculptures.
Douglas was born in Masvingo (Zimbabwe) on 4 April 1986. He only did primary level at Garanje school in Masvingo and then moved to Harare in 2001 post his secondary education. He started working as a full time gardener for the late Colleen. While working as her gardener, he started assisting her in sculpting part-time from 2002, and got a full time seat to assist her in 2006 until 2008.
He is married and blessed with a daughter (1 year) and son (4 years), and he is based in Harare as a full time
Sculptor as at March 2013.
