Dickson Matorwa

The first born in a family of five and educated to secondary level, he began his love of art at an early age of six!

His father was a bushman painter and author. After discovering his son’s first sketches he encouraged Dickson to continue his artistic streak and continue the name.

Dickson used to work in anything he could get his hands on be it wood, clay, paper and found objects. He also enjoyed music.

In 1991 he discovered his interest in stone and in 1992 made his first sculpture, from the comments he received about it he continued his work.

Through difficulties and lifes hardships he used the stone to express his feelings. His parents passed away in 1999 which left him with a family to look after.

Most of Dickson’s works reflect the kind of life he has led (being part of a large family) working hard in order to survive.
