Chamunorwa Rumano was born in Murehwa, Zimbabwe, East of the Capital Harare.

He was born in a multi-generation sculpting family.  His four fathers were artists but they specialized in wooden art.  Having grown in a family of artists, sculpting was an ancestral inheritance that was passed down through the generations.  Chamu’s grandfather carved traditional tools such as ornaments and tools.

His interest in sculpture grew in admiration of family members, which led him to start sculpting in 1998 after completing his O’Level studies in Murehwa.  Chamu’s brother Nelson Rumano, who is a second generation artist, introduced him to stone carving.  He says “he likes mostly carving birds because he grew up in Murehwa herding cattle and could watch these birds in the forest”.  Chamu likes to carve birds; like eagles, ducks, owls and stork.

Chamu’s works have been exhibited in many countries and have received tremendous accolade.  He has exhibited his works in countries such as USA, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Canada, Australia and England.

His aim is to produce unique works with more creativity to carry on the family legacy.
