Anthony Sabuneti

Born in Harare in 1974, Anthony is the last child in a family of six children. His mother was an artist in her own right, a potter shaping a firing exceptional work, and he was greatly influenced by her in his decision to become an artist. The first years of Anthony’s school life were difficult. When he was seven years old he wanted to stay at home and help his mother with her pottery. He began his artistic career early making wire vehicles for sale to other young boys and displaying them in exhibitions at the local Community Hall. He completed his ‘O’ Levels at Oriel Boys School, in Harare, Zimbabwe. In 1987, Anthony and some friends were given assistance to form a sculpture group, Gota Tochisuma Atelier, with which he still works. He has participated in several group exhibitions in Zimbabwe.

Anthony has also trained in calligraphy, woodcarving and batik, his studies were undertaken at Silveira House, Harare. Anthony finds inspiration for his work in the forms around him, such as stone, wood and wire, all of which have fascinated him from an early age.
