Date of Birth:

Robert Chimica

Robert Chimica came from a family of two boys and two girls.  He is the first born in his family.

He did his primary education at Zengeza 5 primary school and went to his secondary education at Zengeza 3 high school in Chitungwiza.

Robert started his art as a hobby when he was doing some wire craft in 1990 in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza.  In 1994 he started making jewelry and 1997 he made his first stone sculpture which was a torso.  He sold that torso to the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe.

Most of his inspiration came from the great ‘First Generation’ sculptors Sylvester Mubayi , Edward Chiwawa, Fanizani Akuda, Damion Manhuwa and Albert Mamvura who were in my community during my childhood.  He used to pass by them going to school or to the shops.

Robert likes to work on Springstone, Verdite, Golden Opal and Serpentine and he works at Chitungwiza Arts Centre.
