Born on February 3, 1978, in Hwedza District, Mashonaland East, Zimbabwe, Gideon Masendeke discovered his passion for sculpting at an early age. After completing his Form Four education in 1995, he pursued a career in art, joining his uncle, Taurai Maisiri, in 1996 to learn the intricate craft of stone carving.
Specializing in sculpting wildlife, Gideon has mastered the art of bringing animals to life through stone, creating stunning representations of buffaloes, elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, and many more. His work reflects a deep appreciation for nature, movement, and the spirit of Zimbabwean wildlife.
When he is not sculpting, Gideon enjoys farming, finding a strong connection between the land, nature, and his artistic inspirations. Today, he continues to refine his skills, carving out a name for himself in the Shona sculpture tradition.
