Tendai Gwaravaza

Tendai was born in a family of seven and grew up under the guidance of his grandmother, a story teller and potter.

Nearby lived his uncles who carved wood, traditional drums and mbira and by the river lived a blacksmith.

It was a fascinating village for young boy to grow up surrounded by all these amazing craftsmen in action, Tendai’s father (John Gwaravaza) also an artist, introduced him to stone sculpting.

Tendai sculpts modern art, and has been sculpting for fourteen years.  His art expresses sacred beliefs of the Shona people.

See below for the first video footage of Tendai.
