Tafadzwa Tandi

Tafadzwa was born in Mrewa, Zimbabwe.  He did his primary and secondary school in Mrewa.  Tafadzwa’s the grandson of Gabriel Tandi, a first generation artist and the son of Thomas Tandi a second generation artist.

Tafadzwa started carving at the age of nine but that was during his school holidays.  His father is his source of inspiration as he used to see him talking to the stones almost every day.  When his father discovered his talent he taught him the language of stone.  He did not take long to understand the stone language because at the age of ten he could talk the same language with stones making some remarkable pieces.  He became fully active in carving in 1997 when he finished his O’Levels and was still in Mrewa with his father.  He then moved to Harare in 1998 and joined The Chitungwiza Arts Centre where he is an active member to this date.

Tafadzwa can make anything out of stone.  His work is bold, daring and attractive and he has exhibited in some parts of Europe, Asia, America and Canada.

He enjoys working on hard stones like Verdite, Lapidolite, Dolomite, to name just a few.
