Richard Katanda

Richard was born in Guruve on 12th September 1975. His totem is the Soko (Wafanaka) and he is from the Shona (Kore Kore) tribe.

He was born and raised in a family of eight and he is the fourth born. He went to school at Vanad Primary School and preceded his education to secondary level at Matorashanga High School to OLevel grade.

He was influenced by his brother in law Eckiel Kabvura who was an artist at Tengenenge and started sculpting with him in 1994. After he realized that he did indeed have some talent in art.

Richards art is mainly based on human figures, precious women, lovers, families and partially formed animal figures. His art mainly focuses on the relationship between men and women.

Richard wishes to spread his message around the globe through art. For example the piece entitled For You I Will resembles a man with his cheek next to his wifes cheek depicting lovers across the world and meaning partners should stay together.

Richard has exhibited his works all over America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

He would like to have his pieces in every household, public place and royal palace spreading the gospel of love. He would like to travel abroad and make exhibitions overseas.

He is inspired by the infamous artist Dominic Benhura, Cloud Muhomba, Eckiel Kabvura and Knowledge Tahara.

Richard is happily married to his wife Locadia and blessed with two children Luvmuch (6) and Sepline (2).
