Taurai was raised in a family of four boys and one girl in Manicaland Provinces in the district of Mutasa and went to Domboruntinbira Primary and Mwoyowe Shumba High School. He was an athlete and a soccer player.

At the same time Taurai took an interest in art, as he was interested in people who were sculptors and as he visited Mabvuku, Harare, it was love at first sight since. Mabvuku is famous for it’s well known sculptors, such as Dominic Benhura and Tapfuma Gutsa.

The area also had sculptors working at Mabvuku Arts Centre. He started practicing full-time in 2007 and has been sculpting with passion ever since. He likes to work with all types of stone; Springstone, Opalstone (white, green and brown) Cobalt and also Fruit Serpentine.

He was greatly inspired by Andrew Nyagato and Itai Nyama and how they worked on their stones. And was Andrew’s understudy up to 2010 when he passed away.

All of Taurai’s works are for sale and are mainly works in abstract.
