Simbarashe was born 21st July 1977 in Guruve, Mashonaland Central, about 2 hours North of the capital Harare. He lives in a remote area, which takes about 1 hour to get to down a dirt track from a tarmac road.

He is married with three children.

Simbarashe started to sculpt in 1995 at the Tengenenge Art Community.

Simbarashe explains his creations as Baby Art. He enjoys sculpting babies because he believes a baby is a great gift, a baby is an image of life to the human being.

Simbarashe likes to listen to the radio and watch the TV. He also enjoys visiting galleries in Zimbabwe, for inspiration and enjoyment.

A real treat here in Wimbledon. At Cannizaro Park a superb open-air exhibition of Zimbabwean sculpture. There were many pieces, large and small, and a wide variety of different stone used in imaginative ways. And, overall, a real sense of Africa, linked to a long artistic tradition.

I was told that many of the sculptors had been trained within their own families: a father, an uncle, a grandfather, passing on the old skills.
