John Gutsa writes:

I was born on the 11th January 1978 in Murewa and grew up in Chakanyuka Village. I did my education at Kambarami School up to Form 3, I was then transferred to Tafara 2 High School where I completed my ordinary level studies.

In 2000 I did a 3 months course where I obtained a certificate in Hotel and Restaurant Management with 3 passes and 3 credits. I worked for the Red Fox Hotel in Industrial Attachments for a one month period and decided to further my experience.

In 2001 I joined my brother Jonathan Gutsa at Dominics Studios, where I worked as his assistant until 2002. In 2003 I started to do my own works I was also assisted by the likes of Eddie Masaya, Dominic Benhura and my brothers like Daniel and Abraham Gutsa.

Now I have what it takes to make my own pieces which are of high standards.

John Gutsa is often confused with Jonathan Gutsa his brother (who is now late) and whos work was more figurative.

Johns work usually depicts fish in various form. I asked him why he like to sculpt fish and his reply was because he had a book on them! His work has been sold at every single ZimSculpt exhibition all over the world.
