John grew up in a family of art, his father and brothers are all artists.

He started sculpting in 1998 in Guruve.  It was easy for him to start sculpting because after school he used to spend most of his time helping his brothers with the sculpting work.

Apart from working in Guruve he also worked at the Tengenenge Art Community.  After Tengenenge he joined a group of artists along the Airport Road in Harare where he is currently working.

John mainly focuses on family issues which he represents in his works.  He also enjoys sculpting animals especially rock rabbits and is working currently on abstract forms.

A real treat here in Wimbledon. At Cannizaro Park a superb open-air exhibition of Zimbabwean sculpture. There were many pieces, large and small, and a wide variety of different stone used in imaginative ways. And, overall, a real sense of Africa, linked to a long artistic tradition.

I was told that many of the sculptors had been trained within their own families: a father, an uncle, a grandfather, passing on the old skills.
