My name is Chamunorwa Rumano. I was born in Mrerehwa district in Mashonaland East Province east of Harare. I grew up and completed my primary and secondary education up to O’level in murehwa. To me sculpting is a family issue. My grandfather was a wood sculptor and my father is still a wood sculptor up to now.
I fully ventured into sculpting in the late 90’s after completing my O’level studies. I was taught how to carve stone by my brothers who are also full-time sculptors. My brothers are Nelson, Edward and Elliot. I specialise in carving ducks, owls and stork birds. I enjoy sculpting so much. I do my works on both mild and hard stones depending on the demand of the customer. Opal, Serpentine and Springstone are some of the stone I work on. I wish to become one of the renowned artists in Zimbabwe. Beside sculpting I enjoy going to church and reading the bible, watching soccer, music and international news.

During the past decade, Zimbabwe Shona Sculpture has become the most collected form of African art. It has found it’s way into important repositories such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Rodin Museum, and into the homes of the Rockefellers, the Prince of Wales and Sir Richard Attenborough.
