Bywell was born in1979.He began sculpting at an early age having influenced by his brother late Brighton Sango. He is married and hastwo children.
During school holidays he assisted Brighton in creating and completing sculptures and in the process he developed a similar cubic style.
Competition amongst the Sango brothers has been significant in developing subtly unique aproaches. Bywell concentrates on perfecting his own cubic interpritation of emotions and situation in abstract form. His inspiration derives not so much from Shona mythology as from the shape of the stone itself. His work has been exibited all over the world and in Zimbabwe. He prefers to work on Cobalt, Opal, Springstone and Serpentine.

It’s hard to imagine the difficulty involved in transporting more than 300 stone sculptures from Zimbabwe on a world tour – some weighing so much it takes five men to lift them – but the team behind ZimSculpt has managed this tedious task for over a decade, and brings this beloved Zimbabwean art form to VanDusen Botanical Garden for its third and final year in Vancouver.
