Askim Wisikesi was born in Mutorashanga area at Jester mine.  He is third born in a family of five.

He did his primary education at Jester primary school in Mutorashanga and secondary education at Chrome mine secondary school in Mutorashanga.

He started sculpting at a tender age of 12 years when he was in Grade Five working as an assistant to his brother Saidi Wisikesi.

After my O’Levels he decided to make sculpting his career.  He was inspired by his brother Saidi, Tutani Mugabazi and Letwin Mugabazi.

During my spare time I like to play Marimba, Mbira and listening to traditional music.

A real treat here in Wimbledon. At Cannizaro Park a superb open-air exhibition of Zimbabwean sculpture. There were many pieces, large and small, and a wide variety of different stone used in imaginative ways. And, overall, a real sense of Africa, linked to a long artistic tradition.

I was told that many of the sculptors had been trained within their own families: a father, an uncle, a grandfather, passing on the old skills.
