Shaibu Kanyemba was born in Chitungwiza District of Zimbabwe where he grew up with his brothers, Denny and Marshford who are also sculptors.  Kanyemba completed his primary education at Howson Trust and his secondary education at Chitungwiza High School.

Shaibu began sculpting in 1987 and eventually developed his talent under the influence of Nesbert Mukomberanwa and acclaimed first generation sculptors Moses Masaya.  He enjoys carving abstract figures in current events and occasionally large pieces representing abstraction action.  He also likes abstract flowers.  He says the ideas for his work come from everyday life in high density suburbs.

Shaibu’s works have been quite an attraction to Zimbabwe foreign visitors who admire his work.  Shaibu was invited to numerous shows overseas in places like Europe and America where Shaibu was happy to share his wonderful artistic talent and unique style of sculpting.  Through his hard workmanship hew as given an award of merit at the National Gallery during the Annual in 1991 with the sculpture which was entitled ‘Sight Of Guidance’.

A big number of his sculptures are found in countries such as Holland, Germany, Norway, Britain and America.  Amongst these countries his works have received a recognition of being one of the best sculptures who have his own style of creativity.

In 2012 he traveled to Holland where he had successful workshops with students whom they were teaching art with his brother Marshford.
